Summer Festival 2013 Concert:
Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem
Saturday, July 27 • 4:00 PM
Richard Coffey, conductor
Bethany Covenant Church
785 Mill street
The 2013 Summer Festival will be Maestro Richard Coffey’s last summer concert with CONCORA, as he will be stepping down as artistic director at the end of the 2013-2014 season. To celebrate his final summer festival, Maestro Coffey has chosen the magnificent Requiem of Johannes Brahms, which will be sung in German.
For the fifteenth consecutive summer, more than one hundred voices will gather in July to embrace the choral art in intense rehearsal, study, and performance, all laced with laughter, camaraderie, and good food, as we prepare and present the mighty Brahms Requiem. This work is the quintessential choral tour-de-force in that the chorus basically sings all the time. Brahms himself called it the “Human Requiem,” and therefore it is right that much of humanity sing it.
CONCORA will make use of Brahms’ own version for piano/four-hands, along with organ, harp, and timpani, all in the glorious acoustics of the air-conditioned Bethany Covenant Church in Berlin. As always, CONCORA’s professional singers will provide musical support and vocal leadership.
