This new work by composer Craig Hella Johnson – the conductor of Conspirare, one of the country’s leading professional choirs – has taken the choral world by storm since its 2016 premiere. The oratorio recounts the brutal murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay college student in Laramie, Wyoming. Johnson weaves together a vast range of musical styles to reflect the universality of this story. The UCONN Chamber Singers, conducted by Jamie Spillane, will join CONCORA to mark the twentieth anniversary of Matthew Shepard’s death. Jamie Spillane will conduct all performances with Chris Shepard at the piano.
